It's the end of the world as we know it...

Politics, philosophy, the law, current events, left leaning debates, religion, baseball, football, pop culture, growing up Greek, random events in my life...whatever hits my mind at the time.

"We'll take your children away if you vote Kerry..."

From Scrutiny Hooligans, and Vast Dairy State Conspiracy, check out this handout being circulated to around Milwaukee's African American communities. I *have* to think that this is a sarcastic thing. But at the same time, it does seem to go into their entire thought process that Republicans seem to have to do anything to prevent people from voting.

If this is legit, this is beyond frightening. Your children will get taken away from you?? Are you serious? If you've already voted in any election (i.e. the May general election) you can't vote now? Oh my gosh, if this doesn't target lower socio economic individuals, I am not sure what does.

On another note, the reason that there are new people registered to vote is that they are unhappy with the current administration. If they were satisfied, they'd be slackers and let the 9 old guys on the Supreme Court decide, like they have done for years...

Sad to say, a very similar flyer was circulated in the same neighborhoods in 2000.

The 2000 flyer actually said most of the things this one says, but also misidentified the election day as being one day later.

Where did you get this flier? Curious, because I'd very much like to check it out.

Just in case, I hope that someone is distributing a counter-flyer that gives people accurate information about their voting rights. That has to be the worst misinformation ever (except perhaps 2000).

Didn't Donald Rumsfeld, in regards to the tenuous nature of the upcoming elections in Iraq say something to the effect that if those in the most violent, war-torn areas couldn't vote, that's their hard cheese? He said it was better that *some people* got to vote, as opposed to no one voting at all.

This horrifically cavalier approach is what's probably guiding the Republicans this time around. So, if blacks, Latinos/as, American Indians, Asians, etc. can't vote, so what? Better that *some* people (i.e. soccer moms, NASCAR dads, evangelicals) get to vote, then no one at all. Freedom isn't always perfect (or some stupid b.s. like that).

After all, we *could* suffer another terrosist attack, or BE EATEN BY WOLVES! These people should be scared and afraid all the time! So what if they don't vote?

Freedom isn't always perfect, after all.

    j/k

okay first, all african amreicans don't like chicken and watermelon. all african americans don't think alike AND drumroll please!! all african americans don't vote democrat. i get so tired of that stereotype.

and two, there was a video clip on primetime live thursday night stating that if bush was re-elected our blood would fill the streets of america.

my point ... both sides are acting very irresponsibly using these fear tactics.

This brings back memories of Nixon's Dirty Tricks Department. Anything it takes to win. Luckily nixon was forced to resign because he was setting himself up to be the first Nazi leader of the US. He already had the beginnings of his personal SS body guard who were above the law and would do anything. If he had been allowed to stay in powere he would have expanded it and the US would be a full-fledged Nazi state by now, no doubt with George Bush as its head of state. Why is it the Republicans are always willing to do anything it takes? I don't get it. And yet they are so much for family values, and presumably morality. With Jesus coming out of their ears.
