It's the end of the world as we know it...

Politics, philosophy, the law, current events, left leaning debates, religion, baseball, football, pop culture, growing up Greek, random events in my life...whatever hits my mind at the time.

7.4.05

I was at a Young Professional meeting the other day, and the conversation turned to cell phones. Or, more accurately, cell phone phone books. The "order" that people's cells numbers are in. One person had their significant other number 37, something that evidently wasn't necessarily positive. It was humerous to us, except...

I have a secret. My parents and siblings are 1-4. After that, it gets random, much in the order that I entered them in on or loosely grouped. "Law school people" "College people" "Old people" "Some relatives." EXCEPT I leave #7 blank. That way, I can put crush of the moment as #7. Which is my favorite number. So when they fall out of the #7 hole, well, that's when it's done. They just become #82 or something random like that.

Well, I'm already paying $2.33 for gas now, what's another 2 cents??

Hot Brother is dead. I'm in mourning. Black black me. (Well, my socks are black and blue.) He died on Smallville, he died on Lost. Every time I get an opportunity to see him, they kill him. I had been trying to prepare for it, but I was still deeply affected. And now Lost isn't on for weeks. Until May. What the fuck is up with that??

The Indians bullpen starts right up where it left last season. By that, I mean blowing saves. On the plus side, our starters (the #2 and #3 starters) appeared strong against an offensive team.

I can support extending Dayling Savings time. I'm so much happier when it's light later rather than earlier, when I'm not up. Of course, not everyone recognizes DST, so does that assume that it will? And isn't that kinda like spitting against the wind anyway? I guess I don't see the "solve the energy crisis by moving Daylight Saving time" thing gonna work. That's a pretty feeble attempt.

Excuse the crude nature of what I'm about to say, but Ian Somerhalder is one hot mo for, and I'd do him in .2 seconds.

Can he act? Yeah, sure, good enough. Did his character truly run its course? Yeah, sure, maybe.

But he's hot! Doesn't that count for something?

    :-)

    Am I #27?

Oh, and you might have to change the picture that comes up with smithj2 calls, might not be the best call for a while, eh :)

Caren, I *definitely* wouldn't like that!! It is now a tie between Sayid and Sawyer who is my favorite left.

Matthew, that is EXACTLY what I thought about Ian Somerhalder (thus, his name of "Hot Brother.") They could have done more for the characters; not knowing them or their back storyline, you can develop them as anything, basically. He could have had such potential for my Wednesdays...That TOTALLY counts in my world!!

Jen, I don't have the beer for you anymore, it's the picture from Rochester. THe Labatts is gone. :)

Pardon my retardness, but how is extending day light savings reduce electricty use? I don't get it.

ABC does a horrible job with scheduling. Why have weeks between new shows. They did the same with Desperate Housewives. (Yes, I admit that I watch it.)

    Peter,

The theory is that more people are awake and active in the evening than in the morning. Thus, if you have it stay lighter longer into the evening, people won't be turning on their house lights as early, thus there will be less time that electricity is expended on such things.

    Makes sense. Kind of.

I don't even pay attention to the speed dial numbers on my cell phone. I bring up people in the good old alphabetical order. (And no, I don't sort the names on my cell phone geographically. I'm not that obsessive yet.)

You're paying less than $2.45 for gas? I'm jealous.

Completely off topic question - after Johnnie Cochran died, they mentioned that Cochran had primarily specialized in civil law before taking the O.J. case. How hard is it for a lawyer to transition from civil to criminal law?

Ah, those young professional meetings. I "aged out" of that when I was 35. I literally am not welcome at the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar anymore. Sigh. Oh well. No more free conferences for me!

Not having daylight savings time is starting to wierd out my internal clock.....

The stupid thing about me is that I used to have a hierarchy in my cell phone too -- of the 500 possible entries, people were "ranked" in the 000 series, the 100 series, the 200 series, etc etc., based upon how frequently I expected to call them. That's the most retarded system ever, seeing as I can't figure out on this phone the significance of those numbers (I don't think there's a function to speed dial entry No. 4), so in the end the alpha listing is the only important thing anyway.

It's always sad when hot guys get killed off of tv shows. Especially shows where they're somewhat likely to lose clothing on a regular basis....

I don't even think my cell phone numbers anything in it. I've never once used any sort of a speed dial on my phone. I'm not even sure if it would be all that fast. I just go to my phone book and type the first letter of the name and I'm usually there.

Peter, I have NO IDEA why there are so many weeks between shows. I know for Desperate Housewives (I also watch) it was b/c they initially ordered only 18 shows, not realizing that it was going to be so huge. Needed the shows for sweeps, it wasn't on for most, if not all, of March. Maybe it's the same for Lost??

And Matthew explained the Daylight Savings Time thing. As I'm not a morning person, I'd prefer it, but to think that it would make an energy difference...hell no. But Caren, I hadn't even thought of that with winter blues, and I'm really affected by the winter greys (SAD here!) but that's an excellent point!

Ontario, I know the speed dial numbers on my cell - at least a bunch of them. I can't imagine sorting geographically - it would get messed up every time you met someone new!! As for gas, we were paying around $2.15, but it's gone up. I know that in Cali, it's been a lot more this entire time. And as for Cochran, he was HUGE in civil law. A real champion. He's just best know for "if the glove don't fit, you must aquit." I'm not sure on the transition. As he did actual litigation, a lot of it would be the same. I know that I was interested in either criminal or employment. Both litigation.

Jen, yeah, the managing partner told me that I was snooty exclusive b/c I was in organizations that he couldn't get into. All mine are Young Professional ones. Though the one is the 20/30 Club, and that's all the way through age 39. So I still got 12 years. :)

Dern, Hawaii doesn't have daylight savings time?

Dennis! I don't rank people in series, but I do have the people I call most often at the beginning. So I hit 1 and talk, and it calls the person who is #1 on my phone. So I guess that I have the speed dial entry function that your phone lacks. What gets me on my alpha listing is I'll put someone under their nickname, and then look under their real names. Or vice versa. I'm such a moron. And yes, hot brother was often sweaty, and even a few times shirtless. Oh, I am still saddened.

And Curtis, as I said, I do have and do use the speedial.

And on a side note, why aren't I getting email confirmation of comments anymore?
