It's the end of the world as we know it...

Politics, philosophy, the law, current events, left leaning debates, religion, baseball, football, pop culture, growing up Greek, random events in my life...whatever hits my mind at the time.

Afghanistan

My cousin is going to Afghanistan. Not cool. Everyone keeps saying "better than Iraq" and maybe marginally so. But not much. I imean, the administration took resources (i.e. soldiers, money, attention) away from the Taliban and Al Quaeda for Iraq, and now neither place is really safe. And there is that recent video showing Al Quaeda training camps near the Pakistani border according to NYTimes. Hmmm...I guess Bush's statement that we had "put the Taliban out of business forever" was premature. Then again, so was "Mission Accomplished." And rather than make the world safer, the war in Iraw has brought natural enemies together. Is it any coincidence that the (revised) State Separtment report showed that terrorism attacks last year was at a 20 year high? He is in the National Guard reserves inactive duty, and he says that he only trusts one person to watch his back. That's frightening. At least when he was gone before in the Marines, he trusted his squad. But these inactive duty National Guard guys have never fought, never really received training, they are grandparents and whatnot. It's just not cool. But I guess it highlights the reason why they need to start the draft.
