It's the end of the world as we know it...

Politics, philosophy, the law, current events, left leaning debates, religion, baseball, football, pop culture, growing up Greek, random events in my life...whatever hits my mind at the time.

25.3.05

Remember me railing about back-assed Ohioans voting for Issue 1 (the constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Ohio)?

Turns out that these conservative Bible-belt fuckers really screwed up. A judge (the second one) ruled yesterday that Issue 1 prevents Ohio's
domestic violence law from being applied when the victim and offender are not married. So for those women getting the shit kicked out of them, if they aren't married, sorry...we had to protect us from gay marriage, and you lose. No domestic violence protection for you. But don't worry - you are safe from homosexuals. Don't you feel better about it already??

Cleveland Municipal Judge Lauren Moore ruled that the amendment’s prohibition on creating any legal relationships that “approximate marriage”
makes the portion of the domestic violence law that applies to persons “living as spouses” unconstitutional.

And know what? A few people warned that it was overly broad, but did those dumbfucks care? Nope.

From here and here.

(ETA: What the fuck is up with this font, and why can't I fix it?) :(

It's sad that it has to take straight people being affected by something before they suddenly develop a fucking heart, and start worrying selfishly about "woe is me!"

For the Ohioans who voted against this amendment, I shake my head alongside them and collectively acknowledge what a travesty this amendment is - for everyone.

And for those Ohioans who voted for the amendment? I just want to let those heartless bastards know that they're gay-hate will affect their own kind now. Maybe that will chill their icy hearts.

Well, I'm sure men who beat their girlfriends all over Ohio (and the other states that ratified the same amendment) are rejoicing. They got to fuck over the fags AND legally beat their girlfriends!

With respect to the font, go to your edit post screen, go into the "Edit HTML" tab, and look for all the pesky codes that are surrounded by < and > signs and take them all out. Well, except for the bold one around the bolded phrases.

Unfortuantely, Indiana's proposed Hate Amendment is written just as broadly as Ohio's so it could cause the same problem. :(

Another Judge ruled that it wasn't the "intent" of Issue 1 to not apply to the domestic violence laws.

I'm sure it wasn't the "intent" but we have to go on how it's written. And it's written that broad. It's not limited.

Great...so Indiana and Ohio not only share a border, but share ugly bias and discriminatory opinions.
