It's the end of the world as we know it...

Politics, philosophy, the law, current events, left leaning debates, religion, baseball, football, pop culture, growing up Greek, random events in my life...whatever hits my mind at the time.

So wise friends out there in the world (who may not be all *that* wise, as they are reading my blog, but I'm trying to be flattering as I'm about to ask you for a favor.)

I need help coming up with beach/summer themed songs.

Any ideas?

obviously jimmy buffett, do you like country? If so: Kenny Chesney's newer stuff and alan Jackson's 5 oclock somewhere. Mix in some Reggae.

The Beach Boys are a treasure trove a beachy/summery songs (despite how few were actually summer releases). And "Boys of Summer" was out in the winter as well. That's what popped into my mind.

As it just so happens, I saw a link to a beach-themed playlist about five minutes ago.

Dare I ask "why" you need these songs?

    Regardless, here's my contribution:
"Beach Song" by the Dead Milkmen.

Wow, aren't we suspicious. :) It is because one of my friends is getting married on the beach and asked me for ideas.

My idea of the ideal beach song probably wouldn't fit into a wedding ceremony - the Beach Boys' "The Warmth of the Sun." Written in the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination, the song deals with loss and wouldn't be suitable for two people planning to spend their lives together.

Am I the only one here with any taste in music? Jimmy Buffett? "All Star"? (shaking head side to side).

First, try to talk your friend out of it.

Second, if she does decide to go thru with it, avoid "beach-themed" pop as everyone above suggests. Try some Hawaiian slack key guitar music, or if that fails some downbeat MPB (look it up), or slowed down bossa/samba.

Oh, and she's gettin married on a beach in Northern Ohi, bring rain gear and rubber boots with really thick soles.

There is always the Hawaiian based pop....like Iz.

Of course The Beach Boys. Surfer Girl's a pretty good one, but not a wedding song.

Reminds, something else I should do before I leave....go to the music store and just buy a bunch of random Hawaiiana CDs....
