You realize, of course, that now I'm in a position where I have to root for the Yankees?? You realize the inner conflict this puts me in?? You realize the self loathing I feel right now?? The YANKEES!?!

It's never good to root for the Yankees.
Never. ;-)

Oh dear GOD. I am so sorry... this is an ethical dilemma they never teach you about in law school :)

This is similar to what happens when a Los Angeles-based Redskins fan has to root for the Raiders to defeat the Cowboys.
I still remember the Super Bowl in early 1984. I had just moved to Los Angeles, and I joined the only other Redskins fan in Southern California to watch the Redskins take on the (then) Los Angeles Raiders. The Raiders won, convincingly. A painful experience.

I hate the Yankees. HATE THEM. So I'll be rooting for the Red Sox. Oh yeah, baby, the Red Sox.

Did every other team in baseball suddenly drop off the face of the earth while I was away? Don't give in to your hate, Luke. Don't go to the Dark Side!

Sorry about the Tribe's less than stellar finish - I was pulling for them after the Twins dropped off the face of the planet. But it would appear your prediction of the White Sox winning the division has come to pass, scoff-worthy as I once found that assertion. Difficult as it may be, you can take some solace in that victory.
And go see Serenity this week - great flick based on an even greater TV show...
